A Bit of a Milestone It Is

  Aim High has been online for just over three years now. It’s been quite a ride!

This brief entry represents the 2,001 online post. In addition, there have been over 2,300 comments contributed – a great statistic where the number of comments are greater than the amount of posts.

I haven’t counted the number of comments that never saw the light of day because of rude, libelous or racist language. There have been a sizeable number – mainly centered around the SmartCentres’ affair. Needless to say, it’s now a fact of digital life that anonymity brings out the worst in some folks. Other folks just don’t care as they feel that it’s their right to use whatever name-calling language they so desire to make their points.

Commenting is straight-forward here on Aim High and you can be anonymous. Countering others’ ideas is more than fair game. Slamming them personally – getting your digs in -  is another thing … at least on my shift.

If you submit a rationale argument but decide to sprinkle in an insult – off it goes to the digital trash bin – valid points and all. Comments are not censored based on political or ideological bases. You just have to be polite.

There’s another statistic indicative of online blog life. Readers never see this but there have been over 4,700 spam attempts on Aim High as well. WordPress’ excellent software catches most of it in addition to ongoing vigilance by moi.

Finally, I have been much delayed in a blog redesign for Aim High. I’m hoping that I’ll have enough time over the summer to implement some long-threatened changes. :)

Thanks to all of you who have supported this endeavour.

Tim

    Congratulations! May you continue to persevere.

    First, congratulations on the milestone. Second, thanks for the diligent and quality effort to create, moderate and update this forum. Third, one other site that often visit is NeilPeart.net, where the Rush drummer offers his insights on life and living. About twice a year, he updates a “News” section, where he talks about his recent activities and reflections. For the January 2012 entry, he talked about celebrating his 60th year, and how he’s been fortunate to have had a good family and friends and much support. He closes his comments by reflecting on a previous remark, about hope and optimism at the dawn of each year. He writes;

    And if I have shone a little light into the lives of others this year, often enough I have felt that light reflected back, in gratitude and goodwill.
    “I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’”
    Seems to me you have to bring that light yourself.

    Thanks Tim. Through your (and others’) efforts, you have been helping to alert, educate, engage and enlighten us for some time with a broad range of meaningful content. Keep up the good work.
