This summer season there are plenty of great activities going on to get you outside and enjoying this beautiful weather. Stay posted to our Summer Challenge Contest for a chance to win great prizes and experience extraordinary hikes. Also be sure to check out the Wild Wonders Camps (they’re booking fast!)

NEW! Summer Weekly Hike/Bike Challenge Contest – “Like” our Facebook page Shuswap Trails and keep your eyes open or visit www.shuswaptrails.com for a weekly hike or bike challenge.  Participants have one week to complete the hike and submit an entry via email for a chance to win the Grand Prize: two tickets to the February Auction Fundraiser or a family day pass to SkyTrek Adventure Park!  Stay posted for more details.

Shuswap Wild Wonders: Outdoor Summer Day-Camps for Kids! – This summer, Shuswap Wild Wonders will offer 3 and 4 day outdoor learning day camps. Activities include hiking, environmental education, fine arts, team building and leadership activities. Certified teachers and talented professionals team-up to showcase some of the most beautiful trails in the Shuswap. 3 camps are offered for different age groupings: Grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. Locations vary, but are centered around Salmon Arm and the surrounding area.

•            JULY 15-17      Grade 1/2 three day camp

•            JULY 9-12        Grade 3/4 four day camp with one overnight experience

•            JULY 22-24      Grade 5/6 three day camp

Kayak Instruction with certified instructor, Neil Trouton. Level One/Two Course: Friday, July 26th from 4-7pm and Saturday, July 27th from 10-1 pm. Sponsored by: Salmon Arm Rowing and Paddling Association. Place: SARP compound at Canoe Beach. Cost: $60.00 for SARP members. $90.00 for non-members. Shuswap Outdoors Club – July Hikes – Shuswap Outdoors organizes weekly hiking trips led by different volunteers throughout the year. July hikes are July 20 Margaret Falls and Reinecker Creek (call 250-679-3419) and July 28 Eva Lake at Mount Revelstoke National Park (call 250-832-8729). For more info on SOC call 250-832-8729.

We’re getting closer! Help us “Like” the TrailRider as part of the TELUS Give Where We Live contest – Debra MacDonald has entered a photo in the Telus Give-Where-We-Live online photo contest. We need you to click the like button on her photo. Visit http://givewherewelive.ca/en/projects/how-would-you-give?cmp=BAC2013wave1wgwwl, type “TrailRider” in the search box at top right, and then click the “Like” button on the photo of Debra (in the TrailRider) with her husband Grant, friend Cheryl, and their dog. Who knows – it’s worth trying!

And please encourage everyone to contribute to our campaign to fund the first of three TrailRiders (specially designed chairs on a single wheel for assiting people with mobility challenges to use outdoor nature trails – each costs $7000). Once purchased, the TrailRiders will be available to book out daily throughout the Shuswap. For more info call Debra McDonald at 250-832-1353.
